PlayStation Reveals New Film and Anime Projects at CES 2025
PlayStation Productions at CES 2025: A Wave of Game Adaptations
At CES 2025, PlayStation Productions made a splash, announcing several new game adaptations for film and television. The announcements, made on January 7th, 2025, included projects based on beloved PlayStation franchises.

Leading the charge is a Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime series, a collaboration between Crunchyroll and Aniplex, slated for a 2027 premiere on Crunchyroll. Takanobu Mizumo will direct, with Gen Urobuchi handling story composition, and Sony Music contributing the soundtrack.

Further announcements included film adaptations of Horizon Zero Dawn (produced by Sony Pictures) and Helldivers 2 (handled by Columbia Pictures), though details remain scarce. Adding to the excitement, a film adaptation of Until Dawn was teased for release on April 25th, 2025.

Neil Druckmann also took the stage, briefly mentioning Naughty Dog's upcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, before unveiling a new trailer for The Last of Us season two, expanding on the TLOU II storyline and introducing characters like Abby and Dina.

This expansion into film and television isn't new for Sony. Past adaptations, such as the Resident Evil and Silent Hill film franchises, while controversial among fans, were commercially successful. PlayStation Productions, established in 2019, has already seen success with Uncharted (2022) and Gran Turismo (2023), both box office hits. The Twisted Metal series on Peacock, though less critically acclaimed than The Last of Us, completed its second season in late 2024 (release date pending).

Beyond the CES announcements, PlayStation Productions continues work on film adaptations of Days Gone and a Uncharted sequel, as well as a God of War television series.
The success of these adaptations suggests that more PlayStation franchises will likely see similar treatment in the future, driven by both fan demand and the proven viability of video game adaptations in the entertainment industry.
