Ryan Gosling's upcoming sci-fi thriller Project Hail Mary may not hit theaters until 2026, yet it has already achieved an astonishing pre-release milestone.

Director Phil Lord announced this week that the film's official trailer has soared past an incredible 400 million views. This milestone makes it the most-viewed trailer ever for an original, non-sequel, non-remake film after just one week online.

Lord took to social media to share the exciting news. "Holy Moly! Thank you to all the wonderful fans of movies, books, and near-light-speed space travel for propelling the Project Hail Mary trailer past 400 million views – a new record for an original film trailer in its first week," he wrote. His celebratory post featured a graphic with the milestone and a new image of Gosling from the film.

Lord continued, "I can't wait to thank some of you in person at San Diego Comic-Con in Hall H alongside Ryan, Andy, Drew… and we have a few surprises planned." He will appear at the event with Gosling, co-director Chris Miller, original novelist Andy Weir, and screenwriter Drew Goddard. The nature of their announcements remains a mystery for now, building anticipation for their SDCC panel.

This marks the second film adaptation of Andy Weir's work. The first was 20th Century Fox's highly successful *The Martian*, starring Matt Damon, which earned approximately $630 million worldwide. Given that track record, it's no surprise that Amazon MGM Studios pursued another adaptation, and that this project is generating immense early buzz.

Project Hail Mary also features a cast including Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub. The film is scheduled for release on March 20, 2026.
