Larian has officially announced that the highly anticipated Patch 8 for Baldur's Gate 3 will be released on Tuesday, April 15.

While Patch 8 has been undergoing stress tests for several weeks, Larian has now confirmed it's ready for full public release next week.

This massive update introduces substantial new content to the award-winning Dungeons & Dragons RPG, featuring 12 new subclasses along with photo mode, cross-play functionality, and Xbox Series S split-screen support. Full details can be found in the Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 notes.

Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 New Subclasses:

• Bard - College of Glamour: Grants healing and crowd control abilities including temporary hit points and charm effects that can manipulate enemies.
• Barbarian - Path of Giants: Enhances physical strength and throwing capabilities with passive buffs.
• Cleric - Death Domain: Focuses on necromantic damage with new necrotic spells and corpse-exploding abilities.
• Druid - Circle of Stars: Offers celestial transformations with three distinct constellation-based forms.
• Paladin - Oath of the Crown: Provides defensive support through damage mitigation and healing.
• Fighter - Arcane Archer: Combines magical effects with archery through battlefield manipulation spells.
• Monk - Drunken Master: Utilizes alcohol consumption for Ki restoration and combat advantages against inebriated foes.
• Ranger - Swarmkeeper: Commands three types of magical swarms with unique offensive and movement capabilities.
• Rogue - Swashbuckler: Introduces piratical combat techniques including blinding and disarming maneuvers.
• Sorcerer - Shadow Magic: Enhances darkvision and mobility in shadows while summoning spectral hounds.
• Warlock - Hexblade: Creates cursed weapons that can summon defeated enemies as temporary allies.
• Wizard - Bladesinging: Merges spellcasting with swordplay through enhanced combat abilities.

As confirmed by Larian, Patch 8 represents the final major update for Baldur's Gate 3, concluding an exceptional chapter for the studio. Since its critically acclaimed 2023 launch, the game has maintained strong commercial performance through 2024 and into 2025.

The developer surprised fans by announcing its departure from the Baldur's Gate franchise to focus on an original new project, though Hasbro has indicated plans to continue the series. During GDC, Hasbro's SVP of digital games Dan Ayoub noted significant interest from other developers in continuing the Baldur's Gate legacy.

"We're carefully considering our options for the franchise's future," Ayoub told IGN. "While we'd ultimately like to see a Baldur's Gate 4, we're taking a measured approach and will have announcements soon."

Larian will mark Patch 8's release with a detailed Twitch livestream featuring senior systems designer Ross Stephens explaining the update's key features.
