Paradox Hints at New Grand Strategy Game, Fans Speculate

May 24,25(9 months ago)

Paradox Interactive, the mastermind behind Stellaris and Crusader Kings 3, has something "ambitious" up their sleeve, set to be unveiled next week. While the team remains tight-lipped about specifics, they've highlighted their rich history of crafting strategy games over the past 25 years, from the Roman Empire to the cosmos. They're now gearing up to introduce the next big thing in the genre.

The enigmatic new project, codenamed "Caesar," has been a topic of discussion on Paradox's forums through a series of "Tinto Talks" developer diaries. These diaries have been instrumental in gathering community feedback on various aspects like feature ideas, game systems, and historical research. The time has come to lift the veil on Caesar and present it to the world.

The most recent "Tinto Talks," named after the Barcelona-based Studio Tinto developing the game, delved into the mechanics of Protestant religions and the "War of Religions," hinting at a comprehensive scenario involving Western Christian confessions. This was part of their "entirely super-top-secret game" known as Project Caesar. Additionally, the fact that the announcement video will debut on the official Europa Universalis YouTube channel has led to speculation that this could be a new entry in that series, though nothing is confirmed yet.

Fans are buzzing with excitement and theories, with many believing it's linked to Europa Universalis. "Dev Diaries haven't called it EU5 but everything we have been teased thus far heavily implies it," reminded one player on Reddit. Another, responding to the video channel clue, teased: "There might've been clues along the way huh." The project has been an "open secret" for over a year, thanks to the ongoing discussions on Paradox's forums, explained another fan.

To uncover the truth behind the rumors, mark your calendars for Paradox's video premiere at 9am PDT (12pm EDT, 5pm UK time) on May 8, 2025, and witness "a new era for grand strategy."

Our experience with the last Europa Universalis game was fantastic, giving it a high score of 8.9/10 in IGN's Europa Universalis 4 review, praising it for bringing "accessibility and flexibility to the strategy series without compromising its complexity."
