How To Get Paradisan Ladder in Avowed

Early in your Avowed journey, you'll discover Paradisan Ladder is a crucial, yet surprisingly rare, upgrade material. Knowing where to find it is key to maximizing your character's potential. Unlike other upgrade components, Paradisan Ladder, along with Hylea's Talon and other high-tier materials, aren't readily available. This guide outlines the best ways to acquire a plentiful supply.
This guide details five methods for obtaining Paradisan Ladder:
How to Get Paradisan Ladder in Avowed
Here are five ways to acquire Paradisan Ladder in Avowed: purchasing from a merchant, foraging in the wild, completing side quests, breaking down items, and downgrading Hylea's Talon.
Merylin the Merchant

Merilyn, located in South Paradise (see map above), offers the fastest and most reliable way to obtain Paradisan Ladder. She typically stocks five units at 150 coins each. She also sells two items—the Many-Hued Doublet and the Common Grimoire of Elements—which can be broken down to yield additional Paradisan Ladder (two units each).
Note: Merilyn's inventory doesn't seem to replenish, even after resting. However, she remains a valuable source for quick access to this vital resource.
Foraging in the Wild and Cities

Paradisan Ladder plants appear in the wild and sometimes in cities like Paradise. Look for the plant icon (red circle in image above) on your mini-map to locate them. While other plants may resemble Paradisan Ladder, actively searching your immediate surroundings during gameplay is a great way to steadily accumulate this resource.
Side Quests
Avowed's difficulty curve often necessitates Paradisan Ladder for upgrades, encouraging players to undertake side quests. These quests frequently reward crafting materials, including Paradisan Ladder. For example, the early quest "Escape Plan" provides two units. Completing side quests offers a supplementary means of obtaining Paradisan Ladder while simultaneously gaining experience and other rewards.
Breaking Down Items
You can deconstruct items in Avowed to recover their base crafting materials. This includes Paradisan Ladder from items previously upgraded with it. For instance, dismantling a Common Sword upgraded with Paradisan Ladder will return some of the herb. Check merchant inventories for unique items that list Paradisan Ladder in their breakdown details.
Downgrading Hylea's Talon

Once you reach Emerald Stair and acquire Hylea's Talon (a higher-tier material), you can downgrade each unit into three units of Paradisan Ladder. Access the downgrade function at your party camp's workbench, switching to the "Crafting" tab and then to the "Downgrade" section. This is particularly useful for quickly upgrading a different weapon type if you change your build.
Now that you know the best ways to acquire Paradisan Ladder, explore the Avowed timeline within the Pillars of Eternity universe. Also, check if Avowed offers any multiplayer features or remains strictly single-player.
