Overture DLC Not Linked to Lies of P's Final Cutscene Reveal

Since the announcement of the upcoming DLC for Lies of P, titled Overture, fans have been buzzing with speculation about what new mysteries it might unravel. However, at the recent Game Developers Conference, IGN discovered that one mystery the DLC won't address is the shocking twist in the base game's final cutscene.

For those who haven't yet completed Lies of P, here's a spoiler-free hint: the game's closing cutscene hints at potential future directions for the Lies of P universe. This twist has left the community eager to understand its implications and whether it would be explored in the DLC. However, Lies of P director Jiwon Choi has confirmed that this particular cutscene will not be explained in Overture. Choi tantalizingly added, "Please stay tuned for additional announcements in the future."

Neowiz has already revealed plans for a full sequel to Lies of P, suggesting that the enigmatic cutscene might be setting the stage for Lies of P 2. Yet, details about the sequel remain scarce, with Choi keeping his cards close to his chest during our conversation. He emphasized Neowiz's commitment to quality, stating, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."

The scene in question, which we discussed with Choi, is the infamous Dorothy scene. As detailed in our previous article, the final cutscene features Paracelcus on a phone call, mentioning his intent to "find her, for sure. Another key of ours: Dorothy." The scene then reveals the iconic striped sock legs and ruby slippers of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, hinting at a connection to other public domain fairy tales in future Lies of P narratives. However, this intriguing plot point will not be explored in Overture.

While the Dorothy mystery remains unsolved, Choi did provide some insights into what fans can expect from the Overture DLC. He encouraged players to replay the base game, suggesting that it contains clues about the upcoming content: "When you play through the base game again, you'll see many hints that we scattered throughout the whole experience," Choi explained. "A lot of hints and a lot of windows into the world, and you'll be able to actually see that and experience that in expansion…There are many things that I actually wanted to accomplish when we were working on the base game. It didn't get put into the base game, and all of that, at least key elements of that are going to be included in expansion."

Choi also noted that some fans are already piecing together Neowiz's hints, as he frequently reads online fan theories and finds that "some of them are quite close."

Additionally, Choi shared that the Overture DLC is expected to take experienced players between 15-20 hours to complete. It will be accessible after reaching a "certain" chapter in the game and remain available until the end. As previously announced, Overture serves as a prequel, with the protagonist being transported back in time to Krat just before its fall. The DLC will introduce new locations, enemies, bosses, characters, and weapons, though Choi kept the specifics under wraps to maintain the excitement for the release.
