"Oblivion Remastered's Spectral Horse Discovery Triggers Community Ghost Hunt for 'Spookmane' Origins"

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is brimming with eerie elements like skeletons, spirits, and zombies, yet no one recalls encountering the mysterious 'ghost horse' in either the original 2006 release or the 2025 remaster. The intrigue began with a Reddit post by TaricIsNotASupport, who shared an image of what appears to be a spectral horse waiting to be discovered.

Uhhhh, guys, is this new?

"So I was crafting silly spells in Frostcrag Spire, which is my favorite way to enjoy this game. However, when I exited the Cosy Chaos Spire—a feature that has sparked much debate within the community—I spotted something incredibly strange in the distance," TaricIsNotASupport recounted.

"Like any sensible person, I dashed over there. To my astonishment, I found this unnamed spectral horse. I've logged thousands of hours in the original Oblivion and over a hundred in the Remaster, yet this is the first time I've encountered it. I'm unsure if it's a new addition or if I've simply overlooked it until now."

TaricIsNotASupport then rallied the community to unravel the mystery, igniting a digital ghost hunt. Players scoured the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages website but found no mention of a spectral mount in the original game.

To the people asking if I can ride or interact with the spooky horse, yes! 1/2

When questioned about the possibility of it being a mod, TaricIsNotASupport clarified that they were playing on a PlayStation 5, where mods are not available. They also shared a video of their character riding the horse, confirming that, despite its ghostly appearance, it functions just like any other horse in Oblivion. "It fast travels and even gets stabled!" TaricIsNotASupport exclaimed. "It's officially my steed!"

Some speculate that the ghost horse could be a glitch, possibly triggered by a misfired spell. Bethesda games are notorious for their bugs, and this ghost horse might be another addition to that list.

"It's very odd; the wiki only mentions two unique horses, Shadowmere and unicorns," commented ClaymoreBeatz. "There are no horse mods that do this, so I believe you're not on PC. This might be a glitch in the Remastered version or a glitched magical effect. Armored horses' names typically change to 'Armored Horse,' so perhaps it's an Armored Horse that was hit by a spell, causing its name and spell effect to glitch."

I was asked if Spookmane* can be buffed and if it stays spectral; the answer is yes!

Others theorize that the developers at Bethesda and Virtuos might have included this ghost horse as a hidden Easter egg for players to find in Oblivion Remastered. While this seems less likely, it's an exciting prospect, hinting at other secrets that might be lurking within the remaster.

Many players are eager to learn how to replicate the spectral steed for themselves. So far, no specific method used by TaricIsNotASupport to summon it has been identified.

In the absence of an official name, TaricIsNotASupport has affectionately dubbed their ghostly companion 'Spookmane.' They have vowed to continue their adventures with Spookmane at their side. Whether it's a unique occurrence, a hidden secret, or a glitch, Spookmane has certainly captivated the Oblivion community and its fans.

"This creature might be my favorite new friend I've made," TaricIsNotASupport said. "Spookmane, you're glorious and I love you."

Oblivion Remastered, developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, boasts numerous visual and feature enhancements. It delivers gameplay at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, along with significant upgrades to the leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. New dialogue, a refined third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology further enhance the experience. Fans have noted that Oblivion Remastered could be considered more of a remake than a remaster, though Bethesda has clarified their choice to label it as a remaster.

With the game now released, players are advising newcomers to tackle Kvatch early on to avoid the level scaling making it a daunting challenge. Additionally, there's a report of a player who managed to break out of Cyrodiil to explore Valenwood, Skyrim, and even Hammerfell, rumored to be the setting for The Elder Scrolls VI.
