Nintendo Switch 20.0.0 Update Adds Icons, Transfer Feature
Nintendo has rolled out a crucial firmware update for its Switch console ahead of the Switch 2 launch. Firmware Version 20.0.0 introduces several significant changes to prepare the aging console for its successor's debut this June.
Seamless Transition to Switch 2
The update's standout feature is the new system transfer option within Settings. Players can now migrate their data from Switch to Switch 2 via local wireless connection. Interestingly, Nintendo also included a cloud-based transfer option for those who might sell their original Switch before obtaining the new model.
Important: The transfer process automatically factory resets your original Switch console. Nintendo recommends completing this only when ready to immediately set up your Switch 2.

- Virtual Game Cards - Digital purchases now appear as virtual cartridges that can be shared within family accounts
- GameShare - Exclusive Switch 2-to-Switch local multiplayer functionality
- Updated Icons - Featuring characters from upcoming Switch 2 exclusives

Switch 2 Launch Imminent
The update arrives just weeks before Switch 2's June 5th release. Pre-orders opened April 24th at $449.99, with overwhelming demand causing shipping delays. Nintendo cautions that release-date delivery isn't guaranteed for all pre-orders.
