Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, putting an end to the swirling rumors. This confirmation came through the newly released Nintendo Today! app, where keen-eyed users spotted the C clearly marked on the button in the app's promotional images on both the App Store and Google Play.

The C button made its debut earlier this year alongside the announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, though initially, the button appeared without any letter. Speculation had been rife about its purpose, with theories ranging from enabling wireless casting to TVs, facilitating screen sharing, toggling the Joy-Con into a mouse mode, or even enhancing group and voice chat functionalities.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for a 2025 release, likely not before June if we go by the hands-on event schedule. The console itself is larger than its predecessor, featuring larger Joy-Con that can potentially be used as a mouse. It also boasts two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, doubling the original Switch's single port. The Switch 2 is backward compatible, with the reveal video confirming its ability to play both physical and digital games from the original Switch, alongside new Switch 2 exclusive titles. However, some older games may not be fully compatible. Additionally, a new Mario Kart game is in development for the Switch 2.

Meanwhile, Nintendo recently held a Direct event focused on the original Switch, during which they announced the Nintendo Today! app. Video game icon Shigeru Miyamoto revealed this new app during the showcase, describing it as a comprehensive hub for Nintendo fans. The app serves as a daily calendar and news feed, designed to keep players up-to-date with the latest developments. After the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, fans can use the app to stay informed with daily updates on the new console and its features.
