Nintendo has recently unveiled an updated design for Diddy Kong, following the earlier redesign of his companion, Donkey Kong. Earlier this year, fans observed notable changes in Donkey Kong's appearance in official artwork and early footage from Mario Kart World.

Nintendo has now shared new artwork of Diddy Kong on their website and at the Licensing Expo 2025 in Las Vegas. As reported by Nintendo Life, the updated Diddy Kong features a more cartoonish style, with rounder eyes and a playful, friendlier smile. Attendees at the expo, such as Cptn_Alex, have shared photos showcasing the new designs of both Diddy and Donkey Kong.

While Nintendo has not officially commented on these changes, they are believed to align with the character designs seen in the successful The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Even Princess Peach has undergone a slight redesign, with her appearance on the box art for Princess Peach: Showtime! reflecting her look from the film, as noted by Eurogamer.

Looking ahead, Donkey Kong is set to star in the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 title, Donkey Kong Bananza. Although Diddy Kong's inclusion has not been confirmed, the presence of other Kong family members like Cranky Kong, along with the recent redesign of Diddy, suggests a high likelihood of his appearance. Additionally, with the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, tentatively titled Super Mario World, on the horizon, fans can expect to see more of Nintendo's beloved apes, complete with their new looks.
