Suits remains one of television's most beloved legal dramas, maintaining popularity nearly 15 years after its 2011 USA Network debut. The show experienced a remarkable resurgence when Netflix added the complete series, sparking massive binge-watching sessions - yet even this renewed interest couldn't save the spinoff Suits LA from cancellation in NBC's fall schedule announcement. So what led to this decision? NBC's president of program planning strategy Jeff Bader provided insight.

"Programming decisions are always challenging, and while Suits LA had a brief run, it simply didn't connect with audiences as we'd anticipated," Bader told Variety following the schedule release.

"Viewers have various theories about its lack of traction, but ultimately the series showed insufficient potential for future growth in our assessment."

The network executive continued: "We carefully evaluated each show's performance across linear and digital platforms. Our decisions were based on stability metrics, growth potential, and evolving viewership patterns - leading to some tough choices."

Bader noted that NBCUniversal typically considers transferring canceled shows to Peacock, but Suits LA didn't receive this lifeline.

Regarding renewal criteria - especially with NBA programming claiming Tuesday nights - Bader explained: "We analyzed weekly performance metrics across platforms to identify programs with the strongest ratings trajectory. Creative teams simultaneously assessed which properties showed the greatest potential to attract new viewers. These dual evaluations determined our renewal selections."

The original Suits aired for nine seasons from 2011-2019. The revival premiered in February 2025 featuring Stephen Amell, Lex Scott Davis, and original series alumni including Gabriel Macht in guest roles. Creator Aaron Korsh helmed the spinoff, which concluded its run on May 11, 2025.
