The highly anticipated Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has just secured its writing duo: John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the creative minds behind the successful film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Announced today, Daley and Goldstein are set to pen the screenplay for this adaptation of Hasbro's iconic board game. The project is further bolstered by the involvement of Margot Robbie, who will produce the film under her production banner, LuckyChap.

Daley and Goldstein are no strangers to high-profile projects. In addition to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, they recently wrote and directed the original film Mayday. Their writing credits also include major blockbusters like The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming, showcasing their versatility and skill in crafting engaging narratives.

The journey to bring Monopoly to the big screen has been long and winding. Discussions about a film adaptation date back to 2007 when director Ridley Scott expressed interest in helming the project. In 2011, Scott enlisted writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to develop the script, but the project ultimately stalled. Fast forward to 2015, Lionsgate and Hasbro collaborated on a new version with a script by Andrew Niccol. Subsequent reports in 2019 hinted at involvement from actor Kevin Hart and director Tim Story, but these plans did not materialize.

However, with Lionsgate's recent acquisition of eOne from Hasbro, the Monopoly movie project has been revitalized. Fans can look forward to this new iteration, hoping it will successfully "pass Go" and deliver an entertaining cinematic experience.
