Minor spoilers ahead for The Minecraft Movie.

The creative team behind The Minecraft Movie shared with IGN that one of the film's funniest sequences was directly inspired by the classic fantasy film The NeverEnding Story.

A particularly hilarious scene features Jack Black's character Steve riding on Jason Momoa's character Garrett after realizing there were only enough Elytra wings for Garrett and Sebastian Hansen's Henry. This physical comedy bit sees Steve desperately climbing all over Garrett to avoid plummeting hundreds of feet - a moment that turned out to be more than just humorous slapstick.

"We definitely wanted a Falkor moment from The Neverending Story that was both majestic and beautiful, but also one that goes south pretty quickly," director Jared Hess explained.

"During breaks between takes, Jack would climb onto Jason's back in their complex rigging setup and start singing The NeverEnding Story theme while riding him like Falkor," producer Torfi Frans Ólafsson revealed.

The reference becomes even more amusing considering Jack Black previously starred in The NeverEnding Story 3 as Slip. For Momoa, collaborating on this scene's creation was exceptionally rewarding.

"I helped conceptualize this sequence, and Jack was completely on board," Momoa recalled with laughter. "This was shortly after Top Gun: Maverick's release, so I wanted to incorporate that dynamic flying energy - hitting brakes before dramatic slides. We couldn't stop laughing at the hotel about our ridiculous stunt idea becoming reality."

"Some versions definitely pushed PG-13 boundaries," Black joked. "But ultimately we kept it family-friendly!"

Momoa humorously recreated their on-set dynamic during our interview: "Let my hips guide you! You can't just ride me like I'm majestic," he laughed. "We were dying of laughter throughout filming."
