Crafting a Shield

Surprisingly, some players overlook this essential item. Initially absent from Minecraft, shields are now easily crafted. You'll need:

• 6 Wooden Planks (easily made from logs)
• 1 Iron Ingot (obtained by mining iron ore and smelting it)

Arrange the planks in a "Y" shape in your crafting grid, placing the iron ingot in the top-center slot.

Finding a Shield

While crafting is an option, shields can also be found as loot, ironically often from pillagers (meaning you'll need to face them without a shield initially). The advantage here is acquiring a banner to customize your shield.

Why You Need a Shield
