Dr. Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Deadrop

Gaming studio Midnight Society, co-founded by streamer Guy "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm, has announced its closure and the cancellation of its upcoming FPS game, Deadrop.

The studio revealed the news via an X post, stating, "Today we're announcing Midnight Society's closure after three years, leaving behind an incredible team of over 55 developers." The announcement also included a plea for job opportunities for its talented team members.

Midnight Society was established by Beahm alongside industry veterans Robert Bowling (Call of Duty) and Quinn Delhoy (Halo). Deadrop, their flagship free-to-play FPS title, aimed to leverage the team's extensive experience. While initially targeting a 2024 release, the game ultimately failed to meet its launch window.

Following Dr. Disrespect's departure from the studio in 2024 due to allegations of inappropriate messaging with a minor via Twitch Whispers, Midnight Society continued Deadrop's development until its recent termination.

The game was set within a unique, retro-futuristic 80s-inspired universe. Promotional materials showcased characters sporting Daft Punk-esque helmets and wielding a mix of firearms and melee weapons. Gameplay was designed as a PvPvE extraction shooter.

Midnight Society's closure adds to the growing list of studios facing challenges within the current difficult climate of the games industry, joining a number of prominent companies, including Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs, that have recently experienced layoffs or closures.
