Simu Liu, the star of Marvel's Shang-Chi, is spearheading efforts to resurrect the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Newsweek reported Liu's recent X/Twitter response to a fan, confirming he's actively working with rights holders to bring the video game to the big screen.

The project, initially announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, vanished a year later. Yen recently confirmed its cancellation, citing years of invested time, effort, and personal funds, ultimately thwarted by the unpredictable nature of Hollywood.

Liu's intervention reignites hope for the Hong Kong-based action franchise. However, the success of his endeavor in securing the rights or otherwise reviving the project remains uncertain.

The original Sleeping Dogs game, released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, follows Detective Wei Shen's undercover operation within a Hong Kong Triad. Critically acclaimed (earning an 8/10 from IGN), the game, despite its popularity, never received a sequel. Liu's involvement could change that, potentially bringing this beloved story to a wider audience.
