Marvel and DC Actor Djimon Hounsou Says He Is 'Struggling To Make A Living' in Hollywood Despite 2 Oscar Nods
Acclaimed actor Djimon Hounsou, known for his roles in Marvel, DC, Netflix, and numerous other productions, recently revealed his ongoing financial struggles in Hollywood. Despite a remarkable career spanning over two decades, including two Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor (In America and Blood Diamond) and appearances in countless blockbusters, Hounsou claims he remains "underpaid" and "struggling to make a living."
Hounsou's comments, reported by CNN, reiterate sentiments expressed in a 2023 interview with The Guardian, where he voiced feelings of being "cheated" regarding both his financial compensation and workload compared to some less-accomplished peers.
The Beninese actor further alleges that racism and xenophobia have significantly impacted his career trajectory. He recounted instances of studio meetings where his presence was perceived as temporary, hindering his opportunities. Despite these challenges, Hounsou remains resolute, determined to overcome these limitations and prove his worth.
His recent film credits include A Quiet Place: Day One, the Rebel Moon duology (Netflix), Gran Turismo, The King's Man, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, Captain Marvel, Fast and Furious 7, and a multitude of other notable films.
