As someone who prides myself on practicality when it comes to spending, my purchases are usually limited to essentials and the occasional video game on sale. My interest in this set was sparked by IGN's build of the Piranha Plant. As a lifelong fan of Mario games, this set seemed the perfect way to showcase my passion for the franchise. While LEGO's botanical line has beautiful flower sets that would enhance my desk, none capture the playful yet menacing charm of the Piranha Plant.

Now that I've built it, I'm thrilled to have this set on my desk. It transports me to the Mushroom Kingdom, where I'm tending to my potted Piranha Plant during work hours. Not only am I delighted with the final product, but the building process was equally enjoyable. Completing it in one afternoon, it still managed to keep me engaged and challenged throughout. Currently, it's my only LEGO Nintendo set, but my experience has me contemplating adding more to my collection.

How Much Are You Willing to Spend on a LEGO Set You Love?

As mentioned, LEGO sets, especially those targeted at adults, can be quite costly, with many sets exceeding $200. It's easy to get carried away, but for those of us watching our budgets, it's important to strike a balance between indulgence and financial prudence.

The LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant, being under $50, felt like a reasonable treat for myself. The hours spent building it and the joy it brings me every day sitting on my desk are priceless. To me, that happiness is worth more than $50, but that's my limit for now.
