Tidepool Games has just released an exciting new fast-paced pixel art game for Android, named MageTrain. If you're familiar with Nimble Quest, you'll find MageTrain's gameplay reminiscent, as it heavily draws inspiration from that classic. This game is a unique blend of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes, offering a fresh take on familiar mechanics.

What’s MageTrain Like?

In MageTrain, you take control of a line of heroes that trail behind you, mimicking the classic Snake game. As you navigate through an arena, each hero autonomously attacks enemies. Your primary task is to strategically position your heroes, deciding who leads and who supports, as their abilities vary based on their position in the 'train.' At launch, MageTrain features nine heroes, including one who uniquely throws birds, each with distinct skills that adapt based on their role in the group.

The game challenges you to navigate through eight distinct dungeons, battle against 28 different enemy types, and harness 30 skills to fortify your team. Along the way, you'll collect gold and power-ups to enhance your progress. Thanks to its roguelike nature, each run is unique, with branching paths and upgrade choices that keep the gameplay fresh and unpredictable.

Similar to games like Slay the Spire or FTL, MageTrain offers no fixed levels and no option to save your progress. Every mistake, whether crashing into an obstacle or being overwhelmed by enemies, means starting over. Yet, this structure adds to the game's thrill and replayability.

It Isn’t Slow-Paced

What makes MageTrain engaging is the constant improvement you experience with each run, even if you don't win. You'll learn when to adopt a defensive strategy, when to go all-out offensively, and when to simply hold on for another 30 seconds of survival.
