Square Enix cancels KH Missing-Link, focuses on KH4
Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, the GPS-enabled mobile action-RPG, has been axed — but Square Enix assures fans they're still "hard at work" on Kingdom Hearts 4.
The canceled title would have transported players to Scala ad Caelum for an original story battling Heartless on mobile devices, originally planned for 2024 release.
In an unsigned statement on the game's social media, Square Enix apologized to awaiting fans, citing inability to "deliver a service satisfying players long-term" as the cancellation reason, without specifying technical hurdles.
"After extensive development efforts, we concluded we couldn't sustain quality service standards," acknowledged the statement. "We deeply appreciate beta testers' support and sincerely regret this outcome."
The announcement concluded positively, confirming the franchise's continuation while teasing progress on Kingdom Hearts 4, urging fans to "watch for future updates."
This marks the first official Kingdom Hearts 4 reference since January's cryptic teaser. Despite its spectacular 2022 reveal, Square Enix has maintained radio silence — fueling fan anticipation through traditional secrecy.
Series architect Tetsuya Nomura has hinted this 22-year, 18-game saga may finally begin concluding with Kingdom Hearts 4.
