Killzone Composer: Fans Seek Casual, Quick Games
The beloved Killzone franchise, a staple in Sony's gaming lineup, has been on a prolonged hiatus, leaving fans yearning for its return. In a recent interview with VideoGamer during the PlayStation: The Concert Tour, Killzone composer Joris de Man added his voice to the growing chorus of those hoping to see the series revived.
"I know that there have been petitions for it," de Man remarked. "I think it's tricky because, I can't speak for Guerrilla or anything... I don't know if it will ever happen. I hope it will because I think it is quite an iconic franchise, but I also think it kind of has to take into account the sensitivities and the shift in, I guess, what people want because it is quite bleak in some ways."
The potential revival of Killzone could take various forms. De Man suggested that a remastered collection might be more appealing to fans than an entirely new entry. "I think [a] remastered one would be successful, I don't know if a new game would be as much," he noted. "I don't know if people have moved on from it and want something. I don't know sometimes I get the sense that people want something a bit more casual, a bit more quick."
Known for its slower-paced and weightier gameplay compared to fast-paced shooters like Call of Duty, Killzone, especially Killzone 2, was notorious for its perceived input lag on the PlayStation 3, which affected its responsiveness. The series is also recognized for its dark, gritty, and atmospheric visuals and tone, setting it apart in the gaming landscape.
In another interview with the Washington Post, it seems that Sony's developer, Guerrilla, has shifted its focus to the Horizon franchise, potentially leaving Killzone behind. Despite this, it has been over a decade since the last installment, Killzone Shadow Fall, and the prospect of Killzone's return, or even that of another PlayStation shooter, remains an exciting possibility for many fans. While there's no guarantee of a revival, enthusiasts can take comfort knowing they have at least one more advocate in their corner.
