Killer Instinct Gold Joins Nintendo Switch Online Library

Killer Instinct Gold has been added to the Nintendo Switch Online library, bringing the excitement of this classic Nintendo 64 game to subscribers. As a port of the arcade fighter Killer Instinct 2, Gold now joins the original Killer Instinct in the expansive collection of retro titles accessible to Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack members.

Originally released in 1996, Killer Instinct Gold was crafted by the renowned British studio Rare, known for its close collaboration with Nintendo during that era. Rare's portfolio at the time included beloved titles such as Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye 007, and Perfect Dark. In Killer Instinct Gold, players can choose from a roster of 10 fierce fighters and dive into various game modes, exploring a vast array of moves and killer combos.

Interestingly, Rare and the Killer Instinct franchise are now under Microsoft's ownership, making Killer Instinct Gold the latest Xbox Game Studios title available on the Switch. Since the release of the Xbox One launch title, Killer Instinct, in 2013, there have been no announcements regarding a new sequel to the series.

The 10 Best Fighting Games

View 11 ImagesNintendo Switch Online is a subscription service that enhances the gaming experience on the Nintendo Switch. It offers online multiplayer capabilities, allowing players to engage in competitive or cooperative play with friends. Additionally, the service provides access to a rich catalog of classic games from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, and soon, with the anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2, the new GameCube libraries. A free seven-day trial is available for those interested in trying out the service.

Preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 opened at the end of April, maintaining a price point of $449.99. The demand was predictably high, leading to Nintendo issuing a warning to U.S. customers who pre-ordered via the My Nintendo Store, stating that release date delivery cannot be guaranteed. However, Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, expressed confidence to IGN that the company will have sufficient stock to meet consumer demand through the holiday season.
