Set on a bizarre space station orbiting Jupiter, amidst acid rain and shrouded in mystery, Universe for Sale introduces a world teeming with eccentric characters. Orangutans with surprising intellect work the docks, and cultists barter flesh for spiritual enlightenment. At the heart of it all is Lila, a woman with the extraordinary ability to create universes from her very hand.

The game begins with the player controlling the Master, a skeletal cultist from the Cult of Detachment, landing in a ramshackle mining colony. Exploring this quirky settlement, filled with unusual shops, leads to a fateful encounter with Lila at Honin's Tea House. The narrative unfolds through alternating perspectives between Lila and the Master, gradually unveiling their intertwined mysteries.

Playing as Lila involves a captivating mini-game where players create universes by mixing and matching ingredients, resulting in stunning visual worlds. Meanwhile, the Master's journey delves into the philosophies of the Cult of Detachment and encounters with the Church of Many Gods. The overarching story unfolds gradually, inviting players to theorize and piece together the unfolding events. Each character, whether human, skeletal, or robotic, possesses a compelling backstory, enriching the richly detailed game world.
