Joy-Con Mouse Controls Now Navigate Nintendo Switch 2 Home Menu

May 25,25(2 months ago)

Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the innovative Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls on the Home screen, adding a new layer of interactivity to the console experience. Following the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, there has been much speculation about the functionality of the new Joy-Con's mouse controls. Last month, we received official confirmation that the Joy-Con can operate in "mouse mode," allowing players to glide the controllers across surfaces and use the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, much like a standard mouse. Moreover, two Joy-Con controllers can be used in mouse mode simultaneously, one in each hand, or one in standard mode and the other in mouse mode, offering versatile control options.

Now, thanks to a demonstration on the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, we have further insight into the capabilities of the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. They can be seamlessly integrated into navigating the Home menu on the Switch 2. As showcased in the demonstration:

Nintendo explained that "if you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen." To activate the cursor, simply set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or any flat surface and move it as instructed. "While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," Nintendo added, "and use mouse controls on the Home menu and in compatible software." When you're ready to revert to using the thumbstick, just reposition the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.

Although we don't yet have a full list of games that will support these mouse controls, Nintendo has demonstrated the technology working with the Switch 2 editions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
