Jenna Ortega on Her Small MCU Role: 'They Cut All My Lines'
Did you catch Jenna Ortega's fleeting appearance in Iron Man 3? It's easy to miss, but the now-22-year-old star of Netflix's Wednesday and the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice movie actually made her film debut at the tender age of 11 in this 2013 Marvel blockbuster. In her brief role, Ortega plays the wheelchair-bound daughter of Vice President Rodriguez, portrayed by Miguel Ferrer. The scene captures a poignant moment as Rodriguez kisses his daughter on the forehead during a Christmas family gathering, before the camera pans down to reveal her missing limb.

Reflecting on her MCU stint over a decade later, Ortega shared a humorous take with Entertainment Weekly. "I did it once," she remarked about her role in Iron Man 3. "It was one of the first jobs I ever did. They took all my lines out. I’m in Iron Man 3 for a quick second. I take up the frame, I have one leg and I’m the vice president’s daughter.” Her co-star in Death of a Unicorn, Paul Rudd, who is famous for portraying Ant-Man in the MCU, playfully suggested that Marvel might create a larger role for her in the future, stating, “And so it might very well be that you come back, that they are going to create something for you, ’cause they should be so lucky to have Jenna Ortega in their franchise.”
However, Ortega cast doubt on this possibility, adding, “They even took my name away... I’m really… but I just… I count that, and then I move on.” Originally, her role might have been intended as a subplot, but it was significantly reduced in the final cut of the film. Despite this, Ortega has since risen to global fame, and if Marvel were to offer her a new role in the MCU, it's likely she would consider it.

Iron Man 3, while considered one of the weaker entries in the MCU, was a massive commercial success, grossing over $1.2 billion worldwide and ranking as the ninth highest-grossing superhero film of all time. It outperformed movies like Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Captain Marvel. The landscape of superhero films has evolved significantly since then, making it challenging for new releases to achieve similar box office results. If Ortega were to join the current MCU, her star power could potentially boost Marvel's fortunes.
So, which character would be the perfect fit for Jenna Ortega in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
