Jason Momoa, previously known for his role as Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to bring the iconic character Lobo to life in the 2026 DC Universe (DCU) film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, boasts superhuman strength and immortality, making him a formidable presence in the DCU. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983 and is the last survivor of his now-dead world, similar to Superman's origin story.

Momoa, who has long expressed his admiration for Lobo, citing the character as his favorite in comics, is thrilled to take on this role. He has highlighted the aesthetic similarities between himself and Lobo, which makes the casting a perfect fit. In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa teased fans about what to expect from Lobo's debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He mentioned being nervous yet excited, promising a true-to-character portrayal, and hinted at the iconic motorcycle Lobo is known for.

Despite his excitement, Momoa clarified that Lobo's screen time in the movie will be limited, as it is primarily Supergirl's story. He stated, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."

In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl, although the image didn't reveal much. Gunn also announced via Bluesky that filming had started on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with Alcock portraying Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl.

The movie, set for release in June 2026, is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. It follows the story of an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem, while Eve Ridley portrays Ruthye. The cast is rounded out by David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father, Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as her mother.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be the second movie in the rebooted DCU, following James Gunn's Superman, which is slated for release this summer. Another DCU film, Clayface, is scheduled for September 2026.
