YouTuber Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán William McLoughlin, recently shared in a video titled 'A Bad Month' that he spent a year working on an animated show based on the survival horror game Soma, only for the project to fall through, leaving him "quite upset."

Soma, developed by Frictional Games—the creators of the Amnesia series—received widespread critical acclaim upon its release in 2015. Jacksepticeye, a known fan of the game, had streamed it extensively and counts it among his top favorite video games. He expressed his deep affection for Soma, citing its exceptional storytelling as a significant factor in his decision to pursue the animated show.

In the video, Jacksepticeye discussed the challenges he faced creatively over the past year, particularly with projects that were either canceled or did not progress as hoped. He revealed that the Soma animated show was one such project that he was incredibly excited about. He had been in discussions with the game's developers for a year, preparing to move into full production when the project abruptly fell apart.

Jacksepticeye hinted that the collapse came after an unnamed party decided to take the project "in a different direction," though he refrained from going into specifics due to his emotional response to the situation. He emphasized how the cancellation disrupted his plans for 2025, leaving him unsure of his next steps.

The YouTuber had planned to focus much of his year on the Soma project, reducing his content output to dedicate time to what he believed would be a significant creative endeavor. The sudden halt left him feeling frustrated and directionless, as he had nothing to show for his efforts despite taking time off to work on it.

Following the release of Soma, Frictional Games continued to expand the Amnesia series with Amnesia: Rebirth in 2020 and Amnesia: The Bunker in 2023. In a statement from July 2023, Frictional's creative director Thomas Grip mentioned the company's intention to explore themes beyond horror, aiming to focus on other emotional qualities and immersive experiences in their future projects.
