"Hollow Knight: Silksong Playable at Australian Museum in September 2025"
IGN has exciting news for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong. The highly anticipated game from Team Cherry, which has been at the top of Steam's wishlist for years, will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, starting September 18, 2025. This opportunity comes as part of a video game exhibition called Game Worlds, which will also feature displays exploring the game's design and artistic direction.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their enthusiasm for showcasing this South Australian-made game. "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September," they said.
They highlighted the detailed elements of the game that will be on display, including hundreds of sprites animating Hornet’s movements and attacks, and the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights. "From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"
ACMI also shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, which will be part of the Game Worlds exhibition.
With the game set to be playable at the museum from September 18, fans are hopeful that a release might occur before then, possibly even in August. The excitement around Hollow Knight: Silksong continues to build, especially after its brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, where Team Cherry confirmed the 2025 release window with a glimpse of new gameplay.
Originally announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with subsequent versions planned for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, Silksong has been the subject of various intriguing teases, including a mysterious chocolate cake recipe shared by Team Cherry at the start of 2025, which sparked speculation about an April re-reveal.
