During today's Beyond the Strand presentation, Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions unveiled the first official glimpse of a new animated film set in the world of Death Stranding. Titled Death Stranding: Mosquito, it follows the story of a man who sucks—according to Kojima and animation director Hiroshi Miyamoto.

We saw a brief clip of animation from Mosquito, showing a man with something attached to his face, featuring a strange tentacle-like appendage. At the start of the scene, he’s submerged in water, swimming toward a faint human-shaped figure. Later, on dry land under Timefall, he battles a man in a porter suit, still clutching that gooey growth on his face.

That’s all we know for now. Who is this man, and what does it all mean? Unclear. But we learned in a follow-up discussion with Kojima and Miyamoto that “Mosquito” is the name of the protagonist—he has the ability to suck... something. Not blood. Just something. We’ll learn more later.

It was also revealed that Mosquito is being hand-drawn frame by frame, with the artwork later digitized to form the final animation. Studio Easter, known for their work on Dandadan, is handling the film’s backgrounds. Additionally, Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners, Raised by Wolves) is writing the scenario script.
