League of Legends Reverses Unpopular Changes

Hextech Chests Make a Comeback

In response to community feedback, Riot Games is reintroducing Hextech Chests to League of Legends. A developer update was posted on their official website on February 27, 2025, complemented by a detailed video on their YouTube channel. Riot acknowledged that their recent changes did not meet the expectations of their player base, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."

The significance of Hextech Chests to the community was underestimated, as Riot admitted, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."

Starting with patch 25.05, players will once again have the opportunity to earn up to 10 Hextech Chests and keys per act. Eight of these chests will be available through the free pass, while the remaining two can be obtained via the Honor system.

Exalted Mordekaiser and More Fan-Driven Changes

Riot Games has also announced a delay for the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, as the team aims to "take more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." This delay extends to the entire Exalted skin line, meaning fans won't see a new skin in every Act as initially planned.

In response to further fan feedback, League of Legends will replace one of the non-Prestige skins with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing concerns about the scarcity of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and the frequency of new champion skins.

To improve accessibility, the cost of all champions in terms of Blue Essence will be reduced by 50% starting with patch 25.05, following discussions about the affordability of champion shards.

Additionally, Riot Games has decided to revert their previous decision to reduce the frequency of Clash events. The game will now return to a monthly Clash schedule, with March's event featuring ARURF and a regular Summoner's Rift Clash in April.

Return of Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop

Responding to community requests, Riot Games is bringing back the Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop. These fan-favorite features will make their first appearances of the year in patches 25.07 and 25.06, respectively.
