This series of standalone specials kicked off with "Godzilla vs. Chicago #1" and continues its thrilling journey with "Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1," scheduled for release on April 30, 2025. This latest installment dives into four captivating stories of Godzilla's attack on the City of Angels, crafted by a talented team including Gabriel Hardman, J. Gonzo, Dave Baker, and Nicole Goux.

The timing of "Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1" has sparked some controversy due to the recent wildfires affecting the region. IDW acknowledges the unfortunate coincidence, noting that the issue was in development since last July. In response, they have committed to donating all proceeds from the sales of this comic to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc), which will support bookstores and comic shops impacted by the fires.

IDW released a heartfelt letter to retailers and readers, emphasizing their commitment to the community and their intention to support those affected by the wildfires. The letter highlights the thematic relevance of Godzilla as a metaphor for human and natural tragedies, underscoring that the series aims to reflect the human condition rather than capitalize on recent events.

Associate editor Nicolas Niño, a native Angeleno, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "Having been born and raised in LA, I couldn’t be happier to work on a comic packed with some of the city’s most talented cartoonists. We’ve got Godzilla fighting giant lowrider mechs, stomping through theme parks, and even a pamphlet on the city’s subway system (yes, LA does have a subway system)! The common theme? Angelenos coming together to fight back against a force of nature. This year’s started out hard for the city and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Los Angeles than by bringing its biggest challenge yet: The King of Monsters! Plus, all proceeds for this issue are going to support the Binc Foundation’s response to the wildfires that affected the city in January."
