The Show is Not Cancelled

Recent reports confirm that showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus have left the God of War adaptation. Despite having completed multiple scripts, Sony and Amazon have opted for a different creative vision.

However, the project is not cancelled. Key figures remaining on board include executive producers Cory Barlog (Santa Monica Studio Creative Director), Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan (PlayStation Productions), Roy Lee (Vertigo), and Yumi Yang (Santa Monica Studio). Amazon and Sony are now searching for a new showrunner, producers, and writers to revitalize the series' direction.

Future Plans Despite Setbacks

The Amazon and Sony partnership for the God of War TV adaptation was announced in 2022, building on the success of the 2018 God of War game reboot. This project is part of Sony's broader strategy to adapt its popular video game franchises into film and television. This initiative led to the formation of PlayStation Productions in 2019. The announcement also included a Netflix adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn, with more adaptations of established franchises to follow.
