Freedom Wars Remastered: Enhanced Gameplay and New Features Revealed

A new trailer for Freedom Wars Remastered showcases the game's revamped gameplay and control systems, along with significant enhancements. Players will once again battle colossal mechanical creatures, upgrade their equipment, and undertake challenging missions within a bleak, dystopian world.

Bandai Namco's recently released trailer highlights the numerous updates in Freedom Wars Remastered. These include vastly improved visuals, refined game balance, a challenging new difficulty setting, and a host of other feature upgrades. The remastered title launches January 10th for PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.

Originally a PlayStation Vita exclusive, Freedom Wars was developed in part as a response to Capcom's decision to shift the Monster Hunter franchise to Nintendo platforms. While differing in setting (a futuristic world versus Monster Hunter's more traditional fantasy), the core gameplay loop remains strikingly similar: players engage massive mechanical foes (called Abductors), collect their components, and upgrade their gear to improve combat effectiveness.

The new trailer effectively demonstrates the refined gameplay. It introduces the protagonist, a "Sinner" condemned for the crime of being born, thrust into a resource-depleted world. Their sentence involves completing missions for their Panopticon, their city-state. Missions range from civilian rescue and Abductor extermination to capturing vital control systems, playable solo or cooperatively online.

Freedom Wars Remastered: Gameplay System Overhaul

The trailer emphasizes the improvements in Freedom Wars Remastered. Graphics receive a significant boost, jumping from 544p to 4K (2160p) resolution on PS5 and PC, maintaining a smooth 60 FPS. PS4 achieves 1080p at 60 FPS, while the Switch version targets 1080p at 30 FPS. Gameplay is noticeably faster than the original, thanks to streamlined design and new mechanics including enhanced movement speed and attack cancellation options.

Crafting and upgrading have been completely overhauled. The new systems feature more intuitive interfaces and allow for the easy attachment and detachment of modules. A new module synthesis feature lets players enhance their modules using resources obtained by rescuing citizens. Finally, a brutal "Deadly Sinner" difficulty mode is introduced for experienced players, and all customization DLC from the original PS Vita release is included from the outset.
