Italian studio 3DClouds has unveiled their latest project, *Formula Legends*, an arcade-style racing game inspired by *Art of Rally* that celebrates over 50 years of Formula 1 racing, albeit without official licenses. In an exclusive preview with IGN, the team showcased the game's development, highlighting their dedication to authentically recreating various eras of F1 racing. While elements such as AI behavior are still being refined, the game's commitment to historical accuracy is already evident.

The game will include 14 circuits, each with multiple variations to reflect their evolution from the 1970s to the 2020s, all inspired by real-world locations. *Formula Legends*' story mode promises an engaging journey through F1's defining moments, structured as era-based championships.

Racing in *Formula Legends* will offer nuanced gameplay, with 200 drivers, each with unique skill perks. Players will also need to manage tyre wear, fuel consumption, rubbered-in racing lines, damage, and dynamic weather conditions. Balancing these deeper elements with an accessible arcade approach will be a key aspect of the game's final tuning.

Producer Francesco Mantovani revealed that while *New Star GP* from 2023 served as an initial inspiration, *Formula Legends* aims to strike a balance closer to that between *New Star GP* and *Art of Rally*. Mantovani praised *Art of Rally*'s camera work and track design as key inspirations for their game.

Although 3DClouds is known for developing licensed racing games aimed at younger audiences, such as *Paw Patrol Grand Prix*, *Fast & Furious: Spy Racers*, and *Hot Wheels Monster Trucks: Stunt Mayhem*, *Formula Legends* represents a passion project for the studio. It's been developed independently, as confirmed by executive producer Roberta Migliori, who noted that the team's previous work-for-hire projects have provided the necessary resources and that the timing aligns perfectly with the rising popularity of F1. Migliori added that the game is entirely self-funded, thanks to the success of their other projects.

The studio's proximity to Monza, the legendary Temple of Speed and one of the earliest purpose-built race tracks, likely adds to their passion and authenticity in developing *Formula Legends*.

*Formula Legends* is set to launch later this year on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. While the team currently does not have development kits for the rumored Switch 2, Migliori assured that they will explore that opportunity as soon as possible.
