Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy Set for Nintendo Switch 2, Confirms Square Enix Developer
In a recent installment of Nintendo's Creator’s Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is set to launch on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This news is exciting for fans eager to experience this enhanced version on a new platform.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is an expanded edition of the 2020 PS4 game, Final Fantasy VII Remake, which is the first installment in a trilogy that reimagines the iconic 1997 PlayStation 1 RPG, Final Fantasy VII. The PS5 version, Intergrade, boasts improved graphics and lighting over the original PS4 release, and it includes the Intermission DLC, which introduces the energetic ninja Yuffie as she ventures into Midgar.
Currently available on PS5 and PC, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is poised to make its way to the Nintendo Switch 2, thanks to the console's enhanced capabilities. Hamaguchi emphasized that "With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs," highlighting the potential for a high-quality experience on Nintendo's new handheld platform.
The portability of the Switch 2 was also a significant point of discussion. Hamaguchi noted, "Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work." This feature not only enhances the gaming experience but also fosters community engagement, as players can easily share their progress and discuss the game with others.
Additionally, the Switch 2 version will integrate GameChat, allowing players to communicate with friends while playing and share their screens in real-time. Hamaguchi expressed his enthusiasm for this feature, saying, "I’m very excited to see this game playable on a portable system," and he hopes to foster a strong partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand.
While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 so far, Hamaguchi's closing remarks, "I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2," hint at potential future releases of Rebirth and the final entry in the trilogy on the new console.
This development marks a return to Nintendo platforms for the Final Fantasy series, which began on Nintendo consoles before transitioning to the PlayStation 1 with Final Fantasy VII in 1997. With the remake series, fans can look forward to experiencing this legendary RPG on Nintendo hardware once again.
