Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shared insights into the game's PC release, addressing player interest in mods and the possibility of future downloadable content (DLC). The interview, featured on the Epic Games blog on December 13th, revealed some key details.

DLC: A Player-Driven Decision

While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC version, resource constraints led them to prioritize completing the final game in the trilogy. Hamaguchi stated that adding new content is not currently planned, but he remains receptive to strong player demand. Substantial player requests could influence a future decision regarding DLC.

A Message to Modders: Creativity with Responsibility

The PC release will undoubtedly attract the modding community, though official mod support isn't included. Hamaguchi expressed respect for modders' creativity but urged them to refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content. This request reflects a reasonable balance between encouraging community engagement and maintaining a positive gaming experience.

PC Version Enhancements and Challenges

The PC version boasts improved graphics, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, surpassing the PS5 version's capabilities on high-end systems. Addressing previous criticisms, lighting rendering has been adjusted to mitigate the "uncanny valley" effect on character faces. However, adapting the numerous mini-games for PC proved challenging, requiring extensive work on key configuration settings.
