If you're a fan of the classic strategy game ROME: Total War, which made its way to Android in 2018, get ready for some exciting news. Feral Interactive has just released the Imperium Update, a massive free update that brings a wealth of gameplay tweaks, control improvements, and quality-of-life features to enhance your gaming experience. The same update will also roll out next week for the standalone expansions, Barbarian Invasion and Alexander.

What Does the Imperium Update Bring to ROME: Total War?

The Imperium Update introduces some of the finest features from Feral’s more recent mobile titles, such as Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE. Players can now enjoy three new control options: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection. These new modes provide you with enhanced control over your units, making battles more precise and manageable. You can now easily move your army, agents, or fleets by simply tapping and holding, eliminating the need to manually drag paths.

Positioning Mode allows for fine-tuning unit placements with a tap-and-hold action. The Group Grid feature simplifies the management of unit groups through a collapsible selection menu. Melee Mode enables ranged units to switch to close combat when the situation demands it.

One of the most significant enhancements is the Command Slowdown feature, which automatically reduces the game speed when issuing complex orders, ensuring you can execute your strategies effectively. Additionally, for the first time, keyboard and mouse support has been added for Android (and iPad) users, providing a more versatile gaming experience.

The minimap in ROME: Total War has been revamped to mimic the user-friendly design of the one found in MEDIEVAL II, complete with smoother zooming and navigation capabilities. A new reset button allows for a quick return to the default view, enhancing overall usability.
