Developed by UK-based Playground, the studio behind the beloved Forza Horizon series, Fable represents a reboot of the iconic Xbox franchise originally created by Lionhead Studios. During a recent episode of the Xbox Podcast, Craig Duncan, who transitioned from heading Rare to leading Xbox Game Studios, reassured fans that the delay is for the best. "It’s definitely worth the wait," he emphasized, expressing his unwavering confidence in Playground's vision.

Duncan highlighted the studio's track record with Forza Horizon, which has consistently earned critical acclaim, boasting a Metacritic score of 92 and numerous awards. He promised that Playground's take on Fable will deliver stunning visuals, engaging gameplay, and a touch of British humor, reimagining the legendary world of Albion in a breathtakingly beautiful way.

In the same breath as the announcement, Microsoft unveiled 50 seconds of brand-new pre-alpha gameplay. The footage showcases combat with a one-handed sword, a two-handed hammer, a two-handed sword, and even a fiery magic attack. There are glimpses of city exploration, a dramatic encounter with a werewolf-like creature, and a humorous moment involving a chicken. The visuals align with Duncan's promise of impressive fidelity and an immersive fantasy setting.
