Owlcat Games unveils The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a story-focused sci-fi action RPG set within the universe of the acclaimed television series. Known for their work on isometric CRPGs like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, the studio now ventures into Mass Effect-style gameplay featuring third-person combat, tactical cover systems, class abilities, party management, and companion relationships.

The developer confirms the game will feature recognizable characters from the show, with certain actors returning to voice their roles. Players assume control of a Pinkwater Security mercenary stranded on Eros Station during a catastrophic lockdown. The adventure evolves into leading a crew, commanding spacecraft, and maneuvering through solar system politics.

"Creating an ambitious sci-fi action RPG has been our passion project, and The Expanse provides the ideal foundation," explains Creative Director Alexander Mishulin. "Its grounded yet intricate universe aligns perfectly with our preference for mature, choice-driven narratives with lasting consequences."

Game Design Producer Yuliya Chernenko acknowledges the Mass Effect trilogy's influence: "That series defined a generation for many of us. We're evolving its legacy with harder sci-fi foundations, contemporary combat mechanics, and deeper political tensions – while naturally preserving romantic elements."

Franchise enthusiasts will recognize iconic locations including Ganymede, Ceres, Mars, and Luna. The narrative unfolds concurrently with events from the show's early seasons and original novels, delivering consequences-laden storytelling that reflects humanity's complex future among the stars.

Players customize their captain (choosing between Earth, Martian, or Belter origins), manage crew relationships, and engage in tactical firefights featuring real-time cover mechanics and squad coordination – limited to two active companions per mission.

While no launch date has been confirmed, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn will release on PC via Steam/Epic/GOG along with Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 platforms. Despite concurrent development on Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader expansions, Owlcat emphasizes this project benefits from dedicated resources and represents their centerpiece endeavor.
