Exclusive GBA Racer F-Zero Climax Zooms to Switch
Nintendo's Switch Online + Expansion Pack is revving up its retro racing lineup! Two classic F-Zero GBA titles, F-Zero Climax (previously Japan-only) and F-Zero: GP Legend, are speeding onto the service, launching October 11th, 2024.
This exciting addition brings Nintendo's futuristic racing franchise to a new generation. The F-Zero series, a critical darling since its 1990 debut, pushed the boundaries of console technology in its time, renowned for its breakneck speed and intense competition. Its influence is undeniable, inspiring other racing giants.
The hallmark F-Zero gameplay returns: high-octane racing, treacherous tracks, and fierce competition between racers piloting their powerful "F-Zero machines." Captain Falcon, the iconic protagonist, even makes appearances elsewhere in the Nintendo universe, notably as a fighter in Super Smash Bros.
F-Zero: GP Legend, initially released in Japan in 2003 and internationally in 2004, will be joined by its elusive counterpart, F-Zero Climax. Released in 2004, Climax remained a Japan-exclusive title until now, marking a significant moment for fans. This release also ends a near two-decade hiatus for the series, following the launch of the Switch's F-Zero 99 last year. The long dormancy, according to designer Takaya Imamura, was partly due to the immense popularity of Nintendo's Mario Kart series.
Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers can look forward to experiencing the thrill of F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend this October, competing in Grand Prix, story modes, and various time trials. Get ready to compete for the top spot!
