This marks the second time Escape Academy has been offered for free on the EGS, but the first time for a full week. Its previous free offering was a shorter period in January 1st, 2024.
This giveaway is particularly timely for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, as the game is slated to leave the service on January 15th after an 18-month run.
Escape Academy boasts a strong "Strong" rating on OpenCritic (80 average score, 88% recommendation), making it the highest-rated free game offered on the EGS in 2025 so far. Positive player reviews across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox stores further solidify its appeal. This is the fourth free game offered by the Epic Games Store in 2025, following Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Hell Let Loose, and Turmoil. The announcement of the fifth free game is anticipated on January 16th.
