Since its release in February 2022, Elden Ring has become a cultural phenomenon, selling over 13 million copies within the first month and reaching nearly 29 million sales at the latest count. The game has inspired unique challenges, such as defeating bosses with the Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controller, and has sparked ambitious speedrunning efforts. Following its success, the game was expanded with the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in 2023, and the upcoming cooperative spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign, has shown promise in early public network test sessions.
