Enjoying Elden Ring Nightreign but feeling burnt out on the same three-night boss cycle and repetitive Everdark sovereigns? Don't worry, Nightfarer, because a brand new, brutally challenging game mode might be on the horizon to disrupt the standard Nightreign experience.

Dataminers discovered and shared this upcoming mode, called Deep of Night, which essentially functions as an "endless" mode with skill-based matchmaking. Unlike the regular game mode, you cannot select which boss you face; instead, one is chosen for you randomly. Each victory increases your "Depth" rating, ramping up the difficulty. The system attempts to match you with other players at a similar Depth, provided the waiting time remains reasonable.

According to the datamine, there appear to be five overarching Depths, each containing 999 individual rating tiers. Defeating bosses advances your Depth. Failed runs will cause your rating to drop, but once you reach Depth 2, you cannot fall back into Depth 1. It's unclear if this lock applies to every Depth transition or if it's simply a method to prevent experienced players from matching with complete beginners.

Deep of Night introduces other significant changes. Some bosses become "magmafied," which is exactly what it sounds like—they are coated in molten rock. This likely enhances their strength, and confronting them is a daunting prospect. New weapon effects and more powerful armaments with greater buffs—though sometimes with trade-offs—will be available. Players also gain three additional relic slots on top of the standard three, with these new slots functioning exclusively in Deep of Night. Stronger relics with both enhanced benefits and occasional balancing drawbacks were also found in the data.

Overall, this new mode promises an intriguing twist on Nightreign that could revitalize the game for dedicated players. While Nightreign maintains an active community, engagement has waned somewhat since launch, particularly as the rotation of Everdark sovereigns has grown predictable. FromSoftware recently announced the next Everdark boss, Caligo, scheduled to arrive tomorrow evening.

Our reviewer noted, "When played as intended, Nightreign stands as one of the finest three-player co-op experiences available—though achieving that perfect setup is harder than it should be, and solo play remains poorly balanced." The game has since added a duos mode and had sold five million copies as of July.
