Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2: Bug Fixes and Language Updates

Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, has received an unexpected small update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. The update, a relatively minor download (230MB on Steam, requiring a full 40GB re-download on Xbox), appears focused on bug fixes and language file updates. This comes as a surprise, given the game's release in late 2016.

Developed by Arkane Lyon (currently working on Marvel's Blade), Dishonored 2 introduced a new protagonist, Emily Kaldwin, and memorable missions like "The Clockwork Mansion" and "A Crack in the Slab." While Arkane Lyon continues to thrive, its sister studio, Arkane Austin (responsible for the original Dishonored, Prey, and Redfall), was unfortunately impacted by the 2024 Xbox studio closures.

The recent update has left some players disappointed, as many hoped for a performance enhancement, particularly a much-requested 60 FPS mode. Unlike other Arkane titles, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, despite the availability of 60 FPS options for the original Dishonored and even the standalone spin-off, Death of the Outsider. A potential 60 FPS patch for the game's tenth anniversary in 2026 remains a possibility, though it's unclear if this would be sufficient to appease fans.

With Arkane Austin's closure, the prospect of a third mainline Dishonored game seems further off. Arkane Lyon's current focus on Marvel's Blade, without a confirmed release date, further contributes to this uncertainty. The future of the Dishonored franchise, therefore, remains somewhat ambiguous.
