The Witcher 4's developer, CD Projekt Red, has issued a crucial warning to the gaming community regarding a rampant beta test invite scam. On April 16, CD Projekt Red used The Witcher's official Twitter (X) account to alert fans that they had received reports of fraudulent invitations to a beta test for The Witcher 4.

Their statement on Twitter read, "We've been taking the necessary steps to take this fraudulent messaging down. If you receive any invites to or stumble upon news of one, please report the scam using the tools available to you in your email client or the social media platform you are using."

They reassured fans that any legitimate future beta tests would be announced first on The Witcher’s official social media and websites.

First Revealed in December 2024

The Witcher 4 was unveiled to eager fans during the Game Awards in December 2024, complete with a captivating trailer spotlighting the game's new protagonist, Ciri. This shift from the series' long-time protagonist Geralt sparked widespread discussion and anticipation within the community.

Following the announcement, VGC conducted an interview with The Witcher 4's Narrative Director, Phillipp Weber, who addressed the community's reaction to Ciri taking the lead role. Weber expressed his understanding of fans' attachment to Geralt, having enjoyed playing him in previous games, but emphasized the team's commitment to showcasing Ciri's potential.

Weber stated, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."

The Witcher 4's Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, also shared his appreciation for the fans' support and their passion for the series. He commented, "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."

CD Projekt Red has promised that The Witcher 4 will be the most ambitious installment in the series yet, introducing new regions and monsters.
