Pearl Abyss Reportedly Rejects PS5 Exclusivity Deal for Crimson Desert
Pearl Abyss, the developer behind the anticipated action-adventure game Crimson Desert, has reportedly declined a PlayStation exclusivity deal with Sony. The company is committed to self-publishing the title, prioritizing independence and maximizing profitability.
This decision follows a September investor meeting where Sony's attempted acquisition of Crimson Desert exclusivity for the PS5 was revealed. The deal would have temporarily prevented the game's release on Xbox. However, Pearl Abyss's statement to Eurogamer confirms their self-publishing strategy, stating that independent publishing is projected to yield significantly higher returns.
While no official release date or platform list has been announced, Crimson Desert is expected to launch on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles around Q2 2025. The developer emphasizes that any articles suggesting otherwise are purely speculative. A playable build will be shown to media this week in Paris, followed by a public demonstration at G-Star in November.
The company assures ongoing collaboration with its business partners, emphasizing its commitment to keeping them informed about the game's development and future plans. The focus remains on delivering Crimson Desert to a broad audience across multiple platforms.
