As fans eagerly await the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classics, playing the original DOOM games to keep the excitement alive. In the meantime, the developers have been busy enhancing the gaming experience, particularly with the recent update to the DOOM + DOOM 2 compilation.

This update has brought significant improvements to the technical aspects of the games. One of the standout features is the newly implemented support for multiplayer modifications. For mods to be compatible, they must be developed using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM. This update also allows all players to pick up items during cooperative play, enhancing the teamwork aspect of the game. Additionally, an observer mode has been introduced, allowing players who are dead to watch the action while waiting to be revived in cooperative sessions. The multiplayer network code has been optimized for a smoother experience, and the mod loader now supports more than just the first 100+ mods a player subscribes to.

Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, the developers are focused on making the game as accessible as possible. Executive producer Marty Stratton has highlighted that the upcoming title will offer extensive customization options, a significant departure from previous id Software projects. Players will have the ability to adjust various game elements, including the aggression of demons, enemy damage, difficulty levels, projectile speed, the amount of damage they take, the game's tempo, and parry time. This level of customization aims to cater to a wide range of player preferences and skill levels.

Stratton also emphasized that understanding the narratives of DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal does not require prior knowledge of DOOM: The Dark Ages. This approach ensures that the game remains welcoming to both new players and long-time fans of the series.
