Civilization 7 (Civ 7) is set to postpone its first in-game event to prioritize essential quality-of-life enhancements. Firaxis Games released an update check-in on February 28, 2025, which included a Development Roadmap plan outlining the next steps for Civ 7.

Update 1.1.0 is scheduled for release on March 4, 2025, across PC and consoles, with a separate release schedule for Nintendo Switch. Originally, the first in-game event, "Natural Wonder Battle," was slated for this update. However, Firaxis Games has decided to delay it, stating, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."

Since its early access phase, the game has received mixed reviews, particularly regarding its user interface (UI). Firaxis Games has acknowledged these concerns, previously stating, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They added, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."

Update 1.1.0 Will Address Community Feedback

The upcoming update for Civ 7 will focus on addressing community feedback and suggestions. While the full list of update notes will be available at release, Firaxis Games has provided a preview of what players can expect.

A new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be added for players to explore for free. The much-anticipated UI adjustments will also be included, addressing players' concerns about this aspect of the game. Additionally, there will be significant changes to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory, with AI leaders better equipped to achieve a Cultural Victory.

Alongside the update, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be released. Firaxis Games noted, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."

Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025

Civ 7's commitment to improvement continues with the next major update planned for March 25, 2025, though this date may change. This update will further enhance the game’s UI, as Firaxis Games stated, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."

Looking beyond the March updates, Civ 7 aims to roll out additional enhancements and refinements. These include a "one more turn" feature to allow players to continue playing past the end of the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and updates to multiplayer support.

Firaxis Games added, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
