TouchArcade Rating: While updates for premium mobile ports often improve optimization or compatibility, Capcom's recent update to Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village on iOS and iPadOS introduces unwelcome online DRM. This DRM verifies purchase history upon game launch, checking for ownership of the game and any DLC. Rejecting the verification closes the application. This requires an internet connection every time you start the game, adding a delay before accessing your save file and completely removing offline play functionality. This is a significant downgrade from the previous versions which allowed offline play.

Pre-update testing confirmed offline playability. Post-update, the verification prompt appears, and refusing it terminates the game. While this may not bother all users, the forced online DRM in already-purchased games is concerning. Ideally, Capcom should implement a less intrusive purchase verification system, perhaps one that checks less frequently. This update negatively impacts the recommendation of Capcom's premium iOS ports.
