After a decade of Sims living burglary-free, thieves are making a comeback to loot homes once again!

The Sims 4 developers revealed this highly anticipated update in their recent blog post (though not all players are thrilled about becoming crime targets).

Like previous versions, burglar alarms remain the primary defense. When triggered, officers will promptly arrive to apprehend the criminal. Handy Sims can enhance the system to improve reliability and enable automatic police alerts. Without an alarm, players must manually call emergency services and pray for a swift response - or try negotiating with the intruder.

More imaginative countermeasures exist: unleashing guard dogs, deploying spellcasters' magic, unleashing vampires or werewolves, or freezing thieves with special rays. Unfortunately, these exotic options require specific expansion packs.

Despite the premium alternatives, the core burglars update is now live and completely free for all players.
